i can’t even…
the school where i began my teaching artist path (see: the video below) is on this list. i’ve seen the students there grow and learn abundantly in the two brief years i’ve known them. i’ve seen the principal, teachers, and staff give so much support and so much of their time - of themselves - to provide a safe and nurturing environment for those students. tell me, chicago, what are my babies and their families supposed to do? what are the incredible humans who’ve guided them supposed to do? is it even possible to fathom how many others are unfortunately affected by such coarse actions? we deserve better than this.

remember the time you were rollerblading in the driveway with your best friend, and the neighbor boy asked you on your very first date? you said something along the lines of, “you know i’m ten, right?” his eyes grew wide, and his cheeks turned pink. mouth agape, he shook his head. perhaps fourteen-year-olds aren’t the best judges of age.
